Over the last 10 days I’ve gotten to go on 2 hunts with signal peak outfitters. Both hunts were amazing. Hunt 1 was my elk hunt which to me was a dream hunt. I pulled a unit 50 tag and knowing it’s a tough unit I wasn’t sure what to expect. I contacted signal peak and got set up. Ryan set me up with his guide Anthony. Anthony went out of his way to make sure camp went smooth. I didn’t opt for meals to be provided and I planned on bringing my own “mre” type set up and yet Anthony still hooked me up with a nice meal. We got after it on day one and put in the work. Spotted a few cows but no bulls. Most of the hunt went this way. Again knowing unit 50 is hard I didn’t have high expectations to bring home any meat. And when I started to get discouraged from not spotting any bulls but cow after cow Anthony kept my spirits high and reassured me we would find a bull. Well last day of the hunt we glassed and spotted a few bulls and it was game on. Anthony drove the balls off his little Tacoma like it was a dang sxs and got us on the mountain. We set out on foot and this man was on a mission to find those bulls. He’s tracking game was as we were closing on the herd we spotted we actually found a second herd with a massive 6x6 300+ bull. We spotted it about 3 steps too late though. As Anthony signaled for me to get ready the elk was on us. As I positioned myself to take a shot (280 yards, easy shot) the elk busted us and took off. Anthony was like a blood hound on the trail and we followed them up the mountain till the weather got bad. We went back down and just couldn’t find them again. Although I went home without my elk I made a great friend and learned an absolute ton from watching him. I do not take the as a strike out but I took it home as a lesson learned. It was a hard hunt and we still found bulls. It’s a win in my book. Then I met up with Ryan and we got to work on a oryx hunt the next day. We spotted a few in a herd pretty fast as Ryan knows the area pretty well. When we glassed and decided to go after a herd on day one I learned just how elusive these animals are. The entire herd popped smoke on us. No where to be found. I was dumbfounded. But we kept glassing and found oryx after oryx but I was being picky. End of day one I told Ryan tomorrow by lunch I want a oryx down. I don’t care about horn size I just want some meat in the freezer. Ryan took that as a personal challenge I swear. Day 2 we glassed from a nice spot we found the night prior and within a minute we were back on oryx. 1 then 2,3, 4 they’re everywhere. Our choice. So we diced to stalk a group of maybe 5 or 6. We moved up to a hill where we could glass and spot them again. Ryan beat me up the hill (I was slow poking around a thorn bush) and he turned around told me get the rifle. Grabbed my gun and as I came over the hill there she was. 2 big cow oryx just waiting to say hi. I laid down on a perfect concrete pad elevated shooting position that Ryan pointed out to me. As I lined up he waved me off and said the one on the right is bigger. I couldn’t see her due to a bush in the way. Moved over found her at 250 yards. Laid the smack down on her. She went maybe 15 yards and was down. The .300 prc did its job perfectly. Ryan taught me how to quarter out oryx out pretty dang fast and how to get at certain parts of meat.

If you are looking for a guide. Ryan and his team at signal peak outfitters is who you need! I had an absolute amazing 2 weeks of hunting with them. I made new friends on both hunts and never once did I feel like just a client or just a pay day. Both Ryan and Anthony worked hard to make sure I had an amazing experience and boy did I.
